I would love to say that I can appreciate photography and art.
I love taking and looking at photos and I love looking at paintings.
But why did the above photo just become the most expensive photo in the world?
What made that photo worth so much more than the millions of beautiful images on Flickr?
I don’t think I’m great at taking photos, but I love doing it, and I want to be better at it. But when people pay so much for a photo like that, suddenly it seems futile, because I’ll never know a truly “good” photo when I see it. Or because reputation dictates the perceived quality of a photograph moreso than the image itself.
I do think it’s an interesting photo. I just don’t understand why it’s 3+million dollars better than any other.
This photo isn’t “worth” any more than any other photo. Just that someone is willing to pay $3,000,000 for this particular photo.
While you can generally tell a good photo when you see one, it is harder to tell which one someone will pay millions of dollars for.
There is no accounting for taste and stupidity.
