nighttimemilk asked: You actually used the words "vanity degree" with even a hint of seriousness, have you ever derived an ounce of satisfaction from knowledge in your life, short of the thrill it may give you to know that said piece of knowledge may be traded in for monetary gain at a greater value than it cost you?

van·i·ty:Denoting a person or company that publishes works at the author’s expense: “a vanity press”.

Bachelors degrees cost anywhere between 8 and 30,000 dollars, more if you live in the united states.

While I do gain satisfaction from knowlege, I do not value it to the tune of tens of thousands of dollars.  So I chose to aquire saleable knowledge and skills from my degree, and did things that interested me in my electives.

Personally I think it is a fairly stupid decision to do a degree only because the content interests you, because that knowledge ends when your course does.  Why not plan ahead and find something that interests you can that you can make a career out of.  That way you can spend your entire life doing something that interests you, not just your youth and education.

This is only my opinion however, you can attempt to change it if you wish.

PS: Nice blog btw, I too enjoy the work of Hugh Laurie and Stephen Fry.
